Unbelievable, but Microsoft has not yet started giving out trial versions for Office 2016. The only Office Trial version currently available is Office 365, which runs on both PC and Mac.

My recollection is that in the past (earlier versions of OSX, not to mention OS 9) Apple allowed this, and had no trouble finding apps as needed - and that Office 2008 for Mac updated with no such problems. I then move the relevant apps into the appropriate folders and it makes life a lot easier.It occurred to me that being in a sub-folder of the Applications Folder might not make the installer happy, so I moved Office to the main Applications Folder and the upgrade went smoothly.As a general comment, Apple seems (to me) to have done users no favors by dumping a whole lot of apps into the Applications Folder and then not allowing the user to move them into sub-folders.
